Hey!
Here is again another Top 5 Wednesday created by Lainey @ GingerReadsLainey. If you want to join, you can click here to view her Goodreads account.
This week’s topic is about graphic novels. I am not a fan of american graphic novels like X-Men or Archie but I am an avid fan of the Japanese manga. Not like many anime fanatics out there, I only started reading manga four years ago just because one of my favorite anime, Nana, ended without any concrete conclusion as to what happened next, which is so common among anime shows.
So, without further adieu, here are my picks.
5 Vampire Knight
Synopsis:
Yuuki’s earliest memory is of a stormy night in winter, where she was attacked by a vampire… And then rescued by another. Now 10 years later, Cross Yuuki, the adopted daughter of the headmaster of Cross Academy, has grown up and become a guardian of the vampire race, protecting her childhood crush, Kaname, from discovery as he leads a group of vampires at the elite boarding school. But also at her side is Kiryuu Zero, a childhood friend who’s hatred for the creatures that destroyed everything he held dear, is now determined never to trust them. This coexisting arrangement seems all well and good, but have the vampires truly renounced their murderous ways, or is there a darker truth behind their actions. Because in this world of secrets, nothing is as it seems. And the price of misplaced trust may even be worse than death.
4 The One
Synopsis:
Cane Lele was born into the fashion industry. Her mother, Ye Fei Yi, was Taiwan’s top model, and her father was also a model, until a tragic airplane crash left Lele without parents. Therefore, it is no surprise that Lele hates the industry, thinking it superficial and unnecessary.
Raised by her maternal grandmother, Lele reaches seventeen before she is sucked in by her mother’s sister, Ye Fei Hong, a fashion model agent (and former model), convinces the reluctant Lele to model. Lele had been adverse to the whole idea, until she sees a photo shoot of popular American model Angus Lanson, and she begins to see modeling as an art form.
When Aunt Fei Hong’s magazine editor invites Angus Lanson to a meeting of all the top fashion ambassadors, Lele is invited to meet him and is very curious. She does not know that Angus’ twin elder brother, Eros Lanson, is secretly accompanying his brother. This obviously leads to confusion and is the start of a charming story of Lele’s goals: fashion in NYC, becoming a top model, and love?
3 Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii
Synopsis:
Nike, the fourth princess of the Rain Dukedom, holds the power to call forth the rain. She travels to the Sun Kingdom to marry Sun King Livius for her country, despite her own reluctance in the matter. She soon discovers that the King, who conquered the world in only three years after his ascendance to the throne, is still a young boy. Despite being total strangers at first they start to understand one another and develop an emotional bond with each other.
2 Nana
Synopsis:
Nana “Hachi” Komatsu hopes that moving to Tokyo will help her make a clean start and leave her capricious love life behind her. Nana Osaki, who arrives in the city at the same time, has plans to score big in the world of rock’n’roll. Although these two young women come from different backgrounds, they quickly become best friends in a whirlwind world of sex, music, fashion, gossip and all-night parties!
1 Faster Than a Kiss
Synopsis:
After losing their parents, Fumino and her brother hop from one relative to another. Getting tired of constantly moving, she finally decides to quit school and work to support her brother on her own. As they sat on a park bench, her teacher appears in front of her and agrees to her demand of marrying and supporting both her and her brother!! Is he serious or just playing around…!?
So there you have it, this week’s top 5.
What’s yours?
Oh I like Vampire Knight!
I included two manga on my list too. Death Note and Sailor Moon 😛

Yes! I have noticed. 😁😁
Vampire knight is one of the best even if the ending is quite crappy. Have you finished all of it’s volumes?

I got to volume 9 before my fall out of manga… but I may get the rest just to finish the story.

I’m just not a graphic novel fan, but my six year old is. So, here’s “Our” Top 5 Graphic Novels
I’ve literally never heard of any of the ones on your list!

Really?! That’s a surprise since they are quite famous.
Anyways, thank you for stopping by. 😊

Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii sounds so good and I have never heard of it before. Now I have to go hunt it down!

Yes, it is. In fact, it is my favorite anime (not in manga though). It made me gaga for months that I started translating the raws just to finish everything. Hahaha. 😂😂😂

So the manga isn’t as good as the anime or just different? I usually prefer the manga versions so maybe I will have to see both.
You’re more dedicated than I am! I would have just found something else to become addicted to. XD

No, no. 😅 It’s not that its different or anything but there are more mangas that I think are more deserving to be on that spot than soredemo. Or maybe because Faster than a Kiss is finished while soredemo is not. That’s my opinion though.

Nice list! The drawings for manga always looks so amazing! I’ve only seen anime, not never read the manga. There’s been a lot of hype for Saga and Nimona though.

True. I am getting curious about those two too since almost everyone put it as number one. 😀 You should really try reading one though. I started reading manga just as I entered college since I realized anime alone isn’t enough. 😊

I used to watch a lot of anime when I was younger, namely Dragonball Z but never realised that they all started as mangas at first! I really enjoyed watching Death Note. I think I’d like to read the Walking Dead, as its my favourite Tv series 😀

Cool! 😎 I didn’t know Walking Dead has manga. 😲 Maybe I’ll check it out soon. 😆

Oh it isn’t a manga, it’s a graphic/comic novel 😉

Hahaha. Sorry. 😂😂😂 I was so used in calling all graphic novels as manga. Lol

VAMPIRE KNIGHT! *glomps* Oh man! I love that soooooo much! Though I’m quite sad that Yuki didn’t pick Zero. How could she /not/ pick Zero?! He’s so smexy! :p

In my opinion, the ending makes who Yuki end up with irrelevant. Since Yuki is immortal, Zero is not and Kaname is preserved, she ended up with both. Technically speaking, Zero was chosen by Kaname in the first place since he is giving his heart to that furnace. So first, she ended up with Zero then, gave her life to Kaname after Zero was gone. So basically, she ended up with both. Though she died after giving the gift of mortality to Kaname. 😊 That’s how I interpreted it though. 😁
